After nearly eight years living in the same place, I tend to accumulate things.
Each one of these things are often related to memories more than really useful, or maybe they become obsolete and it’s hard to get rid of them, just because I tend to have this attachment to things. They pile up, take dust, and although it’s nice to gaze at them from time to time, they’re useless. I decided I would get rid of seven things every weekend this year and, maybe, provide another more meaningful use to these objects.
Because I believe in the power of objects as traces of past events, I will take a photo to save the memory attached to them, I will then leave them down my apartment for anybody to take.
Considering we’re in China, I’m sure somebody will find a better use to them than myself rather earlier than later.
Jars
I kept all the jars from jam or other Nutella pots, sauces, tomato, etc. thinking I could use them to make jam or other delicious things. I have way too much. I kept around ten in case I would make more jam some day.
Tap
I had to change the tap in my bathroom for some reason and kept the old one. Useless to me. Gone.
Tea pot
This one was given to me by a tea shop, which wanted to create a website but forgot to contact me back. I’m not too inclined of doing tea ceremony, and considering the capacity of the pot, I mostly don’t use it. I’m sure somebody here will.
Magnetic wonder
Yes: Wonderful object which consists of a big magnet and a small top in suspended rotation (when things are well setup). Past the first amazement, the whole thing got completely useless as setting things up is quite time consuming and the rubber parts rot a little. Maybe the magnet will find some use.
Spoon
This spoon was the one we used when doing the Zotter Chocolate Indulgence Tour. It was deliciously delicious. Really… If you can go check it and love chocolate, indulge yourself right away. I never really used it later though.
Asus A6-JC Laptop
This computer has been serving me for ten years (almost day per day, I think), first to write the different editions of “CSS, the total guide”, but also during my official transition from architect to frontend developer. It then got recycled as a media center with XMBC, then Kodi, and recently got replaced by a Rasperry Pi, which does the same job while consuming less energy.
Bag
Tom gave me this bag before they left China the first time. I tried it once and understood it wouldn’t fit my needs. I’m sure somebody else will find it really useful.
Have fun, little things!
Edit: Everything but the jars were gone an hour and a half later. Everything was gone five hours later
